Setting a standard of excellence since 1970, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is a vibrant global membership association with thousands of members from around the world, representing many of the Global Fortune 500 companies.

IABC serves professionals in the field of business communication, bringing together the profession’s collective disciplines around marketing, PR, crisis communications, speech writing, executive communications, video and visual communication, internal communications and more. We deliver on the Global Standard in communication through our educational offerings, certification, awards program, resource library, online magazine and annual World Conference.

We support our community of business communication professionals with innovative thinking, shared best practices, in-depth learning and career guidance.

About our Chapter

Our mission: To converge the LA professional communicator market by orchestrating excellent PD events that heighten the skills and talents of the community through human connection.

As part of the 14,000-member International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), IABC Los Angeles serves the entire Los Angeles Metropolitan Area including Downtown, South Bay, San Fernando Valley, Westside and points in between.

Our members work in the public and private sectors as consultants, independent business owners, and corporate staff in such diverse fields as marketing, advertising, corporate communications, government relations, human resource communications and shareholder relations.

What do we all have in common? A commitment to continuing professional development and a desire to work together to build a strong, diverse and experienced  group of communicators.

IABCLA is part of the Pacific Plains region of the IABC.

Deborah Hudson, ABC – President

Deborah Hudson is General Manager of Hudson and Cox, a firm that provides communications advice, research and coaching to clients in the U.S. and Switzerland. Before founding her firm, she was Global Head of Employee Communications and Editor in Chief of Zurich Insurance, an insurer located in Zurich, Switzerland. As a writer/ video producer and consultant, she developed and produced award-winning creative solutions for clients such as Farmers Insurance, The Tom Peters Group, Disney and Accenture. An accredited communicator, she is the co-author of Beyond the Bottom Line, published by Oxford University Press.


Jenny Matkovich – Vice President

Jenny Matkovich is an experienced marketer and results-driven leader in the complex, ever-changing world of information technology. Over a career spanning more than 10 years, she has developed a strong foundation in product launch management for mobile technologies and integrated platforms. She has also orchestrated marketing strategy within the realm of high-caliber IT professional services. Today Jenny is the Marketing Director for T2 Tech Group. Previously, she was the product marketing portfolio manager for CareAware, Cerner’s MD interoperability software. She holds a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from University of Iowa.


Ephraim Freed – VP, Communications

Ephraim Freed is an employee experience strategist and leader who has spent the last decade working on the cutting edge of internal communications and intranets. He has developed digital platforms and communications programs within innovative global organizations including Riot Games and Oxfam America. As a marketing manager and consultant he has helped industry-leading firms such as the Digital Workplace Group and ThoughtFarmer drive change at client organizations.


Dale Thomas Vaughn – VP, Sponsorship & Corporate Membership

Aside from teaching media relations to entrepreneurs at the Small Business Administration in Los Angeles, Dale has also spent 12 years doing PR for some of the most influential people in the world including billionaire industry moguls, academic thought-leaders and international heads of state. He began his career in communication as a consultant at Southwest Airlines, a speechwriter in the House of Commons in the UK, and in-house at Ticketmaster/Live Nation.

As an activist at the forefront of the movement toward gender equality and healthy masculinity, Dale has presented at the International Conference on Masculinities alongside leaders like Gloria Steinem, Sheryl Sandberg and Michael Kimmel. His work has been seen on CNN, CBS, Huff Post Live, TEDx, dozens of top podcasts and blogs like Entrepreneur, the Huffington Post, and MariaShriver.com.


Jennifer Floto – VP, Special Projects

Jennifer Floto is a veteran public relations practitioner who has worked on both corporate and agency assignments. Her clients have included Acura, GTE, Mattel and Xerox. She spent 10 years at TRW before doing stints at two of the world’s leading agencies: Ketchum and Manning, Selvage & Lee. She has received numerous awards, including the Public Relations Society of America’s Silver Anvil and the International Association of Business Communicators’ Communicator of the Year.

An accredited communicator, Floto continues to consult with such clients as the Beach Cities Symphony, Rotary International and the Keck School of Medicine. Floto was named “Professor of the Year” in 2006 and received the Mellon Mentoring Award in 2012.  She teaches an array of undergraduate and graduate courses and serves as adviser to TriSight, USC’s in-house PR agency, and PRSSA.


Laura Munoz – Director, Digital Media

Laura Munoz is a recent transplant from New York City, where she began her career in event production and operations. As a freelance digital communicator and copywriter specializing in food, wine and travel writing, Laura has helped brands across the country craft and deliver their message. Laura’s original essays have been published in The Huffington Post, UpWorthy and BUST, among others.

IABCLA is governed by a board of volunteers according to IABC bylaws and the chapter’s own bylaws.
